One of the main reasons for not gaining weight is the insufficient amounts of food a person consumes, especially if the foods consumed are low in calories compared to what is burned. Additionally, poor eating habits contribute to this problem, such as starting with salads and soups before the main meal, which leads to consuming fewer calories than needed. Despite being healthy, these foods are low in calories and cause satiety quickly. Other bad habits include drinking water before meals, which decreases appetite, and eating quickly, resulting in consuming fewer amounts than necessary.

Fatigue and Exhaustion

Fatigue and exhaustion the body experiences can lead to significant calorie loss, making the body maintain its weight regardless of food intake, as the calories consumed are used up immediately.

Incorrect Exercise

Individuals with underweight issues may engage in certain exercises to increase muscle mass and weight, like walking or swimming. However, these exercises are not effective for gaining weight. To gain weight, individuals should focus on weightlifting, squats, and push-ups.

Lack of Persistence

Gaining weight requires persistence and consistency; individuals need to commit to a weight gain regimen for at least six months while adhering to proper dietary guidelines and a suitable nutrition plan.

Genetics

Some individuals may have genetic predispositions that cause them to burn calories at a faster rate, making weight gain challenging. Hormonal imbalances, especially involving thyroid function, may also contribute to difficulties in gaining weight.

Diabetes

Diabetes is one of the critical causes of being underweight; diabetic individuals find it difficult to gain weight due to high blood sugar levels, which are often expelled through frequent urination, leading to constant thirst.
