Understanding Obesity

How to Identify If You Are Overweight

Obesity

Obesity is a condition that some women struggle with, often spending most of their lives trying to lose weight or maintain a normal weight. Others may suffer from obesity without realizing it, perceiving themselves as thin despite being above the normal weight range. This misperception is a problem in itself, making it essential to learn how to recognize obesity to work towards overcoming it.

How to Know If a Person is Overweight

There are various methods to discover obesity, including the following:

Calculating Height with Weight

This method involves calculating height and weight to determine if the weight is within the normal range. It can also involve noticing the signs of obesity. Ideal weight is measured by calculating height in centimeters. For instance, if the height is 165 centimeters, it is divided by 100, resulting in 1.65. Then, this number is squared, yielding 2.7225. After calculating height, weight is determined by dividing weight by the result from the height calculation. For example, 60 divided by 2.7225 equals 22.08, which is the body mass index (BMI) used to determine individual ideal weight according to the following table:
– If the BMI is less than 20, the person is considered underweight.
– If the BMI is between 20 and 25, the person is within the normal range.
– If the BMI is between 25 and 30, the person is considered overweight.
– If the BMI is over 30, this indicates that the person is obese and requires attention.
– If the BMI is over 40, it signifies that the person suffers from severe obesity.

Noticing Signs of Obesity

The next method to discover obesity is through observing its signs, which include:
– Not feeling comfortable when exercising: Engaging in physical activity is crucial for a healthy life. If a person’s weight hinders them from exercising, it indicates that they may be suffering from obesity.
– Snoring: If others complain about the person’s snoring during sleep, it suggests that they may be overweight and should work on shedding some kilograms to resolve this issue, as excess weight can lead to breathing difficulties during sleep and sudden awakenings.
– Fatigue: If a person consistently feels fatigued even after minimal effort, it could indicate that they are facing an obesity-related problem.
– Constant Hunger: If a person feels hungry even after eating, it may be a strong sign that their weight exceeds the normal range.

Note: If the previous points apply to an individual, they should immediately start exercising and following a balanced healthy diet to lose weight and reach the normal range.
