Ideal Weight Calculation and Body Measurements
Understanding how to determine your ideal weight based on various parameters.
Ideal Weight Equation
The ideal weight can be calculated using the steps below, noting that an increase or decrease of 10% falls within the normal weight range:
Ideal Weight for Women:
It is calculated by adding 45 kg for the first 152 cm of height, then increasing by 0.9 kg for each additional centimeter. For example, the ideal weight for a woman with a height of 168 cm is 45 kg + 14 kg = 59 kg, with a normal range between 53 to 65 kg.
Ideal Weight for Men:
It is calculated by adding 48 kg for the first 152 cm of height, then increasing by 1 kg for each additional centimeter. For instance, the ideal weight for a man with a height of 178 cm is 48 kg + 26 kg = 74 kg, with a normal range between 67 to 82 kg.
Waist-to-Hip Ratio
The waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) is measured by dividing the circumference of the waist by the circumference of the hips. The waist circumference is usually measured above the navel. For example, if a woman’s waist circumference is 71 cm and her hip circumference is 91 cm, her WHR equals approximately 0.78. The ideal WHR ratio for males is 0.9, moderate is from 0.9 to 0.99, and high is 1 or more. For females, the ideal ratio is 0.8, moderate from 0.8 to 0.89, and high 0.9 or more.
